One of the things that make January one of the coolest months on the calendar is that it is the kick-start for a whole new year of activities. With its wintery beginning, January brings plenty of opportunities for together time with your little girl. Whether snuggling with cups of marshmallow-laden hot cocoa or just watching a snowfall, bask in the glow that you will see in her beautiful little eyes, and enjoy every minute with her.

We have culled a few of January’s highlights, along with activities that you can use to keep your little girl engaged and excited during the first month of the year:

National Letter Writing Week is January 9th through January 16th. With tweets and texts, it may feel like you are taking a step back in time when you think about actually writing a letter to someone. But the experience of composing her own words and expressing herself could offer amazing moments of personal discovery for your little sweetie. Her thoughts are precious and teaching her to share them with others is a lesson that she will appreciate later in life.

Make Your Dream Come True Day is January 13th.  To prepare for this day, talk to your little honey about her dreams beforehand. Not only will this be a perfect chance for her to use her imagination, but it may also give you more insight into the things that make her really happy. Then, on the 13th, help her to make that dream come true. You could also use this day as an opportunity to reach out to others that are not as fortunate by collecting funds, toys, or other niceties, and showering those that live in  shelters with them!

The Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday will be celebrated on January 17th.Take the time to read and discuss this dynamic man and leader. However, a sweeter idea would be to start the day off watching the video of him delivering the famous and inspiring ‘ I Have a Dream’ speech. Be sure to check for local events and/or activities in honor of him that the two of you can attend. Also, this is definitely a time for reflecting and talking to your little one about civil rights, diversity and equality. To commemorate the day, have her write her own ‘I Have a Dream’ poem or speech that she can recite for the family.

Finally, the whole month of January is recognized as National Hobby Month. There are many stores that offer classes for those who wish to start or deepen their interest in hobbies such as scrapbooking, sewing, or crocheting. Find out in what your little girl has an interest and consider helping her to learn more about that hobby. Imagine the great treasures the two of you will be able to produce together! Sweet dreams are made of this!
